Black Tea Health Benefits, Black Tea Types

Well, did you know that green tea as well as black, white and oolong teas are all derived from the same plant â?? Camellia sinensis. The only difference is the way of processing. Green tea, as opposed to black and oolong, is the one thatâ??s processed the least â?? the process of oxidation is skipped here. This is the reason why it retains its green color.

Although green tea is steadily gaining up on black tea in popularity, majority of tea aficionados, particularly in the west, still prefer black over green. One of the reasons is because black tea has a stronger taste and aroma than its green counterpart. Black tea is also known to have more caffeine and generally has a longer shelf life.

Black tea is one of the most popular teas in the world. The citizens of England just adore it and use it as a main ingredient in many of their breakfast teas. Black tea comes from the same plant that green tea, white, and oolong tea come from, but it has a distinctively strong flavor and characteristically dark color. Why does it exhibit these characteristics?

First, the leaves are withered. Then, they are rolled around to release the beneficial polyphenols present in the leaves. Next, the leaves are left out in the open and exposed to heat and humidity to start the fermentation process. After full oxidation or fermentation is done, the leaves are then dried and packed.

The Chinese call it hong cha because of the color of the infused liquid and the red edges of the oxidized leaves. At one time, it is said that China black tea was considered of lesser quality and not desired by the Chinese themselves, and was therefore exported. This is probably why, to this day, black tea is what everyone outside of China thinks of when talking about tea, whereas, tea in China is understood to mean green tea. Regardless, the black teas of today have come a long way from being considered as low quality tea.

The best known and most expanded type of tea is black tea. After picking leaves, the scatter a thin layer and allowed to Vein 12 to 18 hours. Thus, soft sheets wailing when it lives cell membrane are crumbling, and juices and essential oils out of them. In the process of fermentation, under the influence of enzymes, leaves lose primary acerbity and develop the characteristic color and flavor. At the time when the aroma and taste of tea, fully developed, further fermentation stops frying ballots in large furnaces. This fermented juices full of aromas drying on the surface of leaves and remain there until they do not plunge into the cup of boiling water.

There are several different kinds of black tea available in the market today. Often, the difference lies in the names, which are usually taken from the districts in the countries where they are grown. Hence, you may have heard of Assam (India), Ceylon (Sri Lanka), and Yunnan (China). Each of these black tea types possesses different characteristics, depending on the local conditions in the various regions where they are grown.

Selecting Essential Oils and Benefit from Aromatherapy

Selecting Essential Oils and Benefit from Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy has been around for some time now, manifesting itself in different forms in different civilizations. The Chinese and Indians used it as incense in temples while Egyptians used oils for embalming and other rituals. However, it was in the past few years that aromatherapy has started being seen as a science, and ancient art.

Most people are of the impression that aromatherapy is the therapy from aromas. However, there is more to this than just that. In aromatherapy, essential oils from plant parts like flowers, leaves, roots, stems and rinds of fruits are used. Though these oils are not ‘oily’ to touch, they are miscible in oil, to produce their oily nature.

As they are very volatile, they emit a strong aroma with many chemical compounds.
There are many uses and benefits of aromatherapy ranging from mental to physical ailments. It is most often used to control stress where lavender oil is usually used. There are some essential oils that are antibacterial and antifungal in nature, and are used on the skin.

Such a form of oil is tea tree oil. How essential oils really affects the body is not known, but it should be related to the complex chemical structure of its essential oils. The body is capable of absorbing these oils through inhalation or massage.
Aromatherapy is utilized through direct inhalation, in personal products like soaps and creams, steam inhalation with the help of a vaporizer and in a clay pot diffuser.

It is also effectively used through massage with carrier oil and a lamp ring diffuser. You can also find many aromatherapy candles in the market that release essential oils when burned; thus acting similarly to a diffuser. Essential oils are also used while bathing where a few drops of essential oil are added to bath water to be mixed vigorously. While bathing, the skin both inhales the aromas and absorbs its compounds through the skin.

Though aromatherapy can be easily stuck to, it does not necessarily mean that it is safe. As essential oils have powerful and toxic ingredients, they have to be used with care. This is why most of the essential oils should not be used directly on the skin; it has to be diluted else it irritates the skin. Moreover, under no circumstances should a majority of the essential oils be swallowed.

So when handling essential oils, remember that less of it is more than enough. Only a few drops are sufficient; for more drops may increase the strength of the essential oil and at the same time produce deleterious effects. You also end up only wasting these beautiful, expensive essential oils.

This vid is about my growth on the edges and crown of my hair. I noticed that my hair was thinning out due to relaxers. I had spots of missing hair throughout my scalp. I didn’t realize that my hair was that sensitive to relaxers. I started transitioning to natural hair and used natural oils… carrier oils (ex: coconut & jojoba oil) & essential oils (ex: peppermint & rosemary oil). I made a concoction and applied it to my scalp everyday! I did my big chop on May 20, 2010. I achieved about 3″ of growth in 5 months. Enjoy! Thanks for watching! ~LadyT?

How Essential Oils are Extracted

How Essential Oils are Extracted

Aromatherapy uses a wide range of materials which contain the various smells, i.e. absolutes, phytoncides, hydrosols, infusions, carrier oils and essential oils. This brief article looks at the ways essential oils and absolutes are created from the necessary raw materials. Three main processes of distillation, expression and solvent extraction are covered.

Essential oils, by their very nature, hydrophobically clump together and do not mix with water. Typically these plant based aromatic compounds are volatile, being produced through distillation, solvent extraction or expression.

Not only do these oils get used by aromatherapists, but also in cosmetics, incense, medicine, cleaning products, food flavoring and perfumes.

The word ‘essential’ refers to the oil not as hugely important or indispensable, but as the aroma from the oil that reflecting the essence of the plant from which it was extracted.

Distillation

Lavender, eucalyptus and peppermint are commonly distilled for their oils. The plant species’ wood, bark, peel, seeds, flowers, in fact anything containing the desired oil, is placed as raw plant material into distillation equipment over some water. When this water is heated the very high temperature water droplets that make up the rising steam pass via the raw material causing all the volatile oil compounds to become vaporized. These vapors are funneled through a coiled tube surrounded by cooling mechanisms, then condensing the vapor into liquid which is collected.

The majority of oils are distilled in this single simple process. Exceptions, as with Ylang-ylang (Cananga odorata), can take up to 22 hours to refine through a slightly more complex fractional distillation process.

Hydrosols are these condensed water and oil solutions that result from distillation. These have been sold, the most popular being orange blossom water, rose water and lavender water.

Expression

Citrus fruits tend to get their peels squeezed, mechanically or by cold-pressing, to remove the oils. Citrus fruit smells in general cost the least with this process since they are cheap to produce, the skins often collected as a byproduct from other industries. This process of extracting scents was typical before distillation was discovered.

Extraction of Solvents

Expression had its limitations, the main one being that flowers often simply did not have much volatile oils contained within them. High temperatures used with distillation meant that many oils had their typically delicate chemical structures denatured, loosing the scent. The development of a solvent based technique emerged as a more efficient way of extracting oils from plants. Supercritical carbon dioxide or hexane could be used to create ‘concretes’, basically mixtures of resins, waxes oils and other oil soluble plant materials.

Waxes and resins were largely non-fragrant and could be removed with a second solvent e.g. ethyl alcohol. Ethyl alcohol was able to only dissolve the pungent low molecular weight compounds to form a more concentrated oil. This alcohol was in turn removed through a second distillation, the so called ‘absolute’ remaining.

Supercritical extraction of fluid was a method of removing oils with a solvent of carbon dioxide. One of the advantages was that no petrochemical residues existed in the final product. Absolutes were not gained directly. Both the oils and waxes present in the various concretes reacted with the carbon dioxide and were released. Subsequent liquid carbon dioxide processes in the same machine, created through cooling, then separated the essential oils from the waxes. Lower temperatures used meant less oil denaturing improving the quality of the end product.

Once the extraction of the oils took place the pressure of the machine dropped to room level upon which the carbon dioxide could be released, returned to the atmosphere as a gas.

Aromatherapy Herbal Candles – Why Herbal Candles are the Best on the Market

Many herbs are known for both their fragrance and natural healing properties. In today’s busy world, a great way to take advantage of a herbs properties is through aromatherapy herbal candles. Essential oils and herbs have been shown to boost energy, reduce stress and change moods.

Aromatherapy has been used in various places around the world for over 5000 years. Today’s schedules mean that many people don’t take the time to relax and unwind, which is an unfortunate, and potentially hazardous situation. By combining various herbs’ fragrances with a natural wax, aromatherapy herbal candles are created, and can be used to promote relaxation and combat stress.

For those constantly on the go, aromatherapy herbal candles can be bought online and delivered to your door. However, if you have the time, consider making your own aromatherapy herbal candles. That way, you can personally tailor the scent to your particular needs.

The most basic aromatherapy herbal candles can be made by simply pouring a few drops of pure essential oil onto a candle wick. Make sure the candle is one made of natural wax though (bee, palm or soy), as candles made from paraffin actually emit toxic soot and smoke.

For something a little more difficult, try to make aromatherapy herbal candles from bees wax. Bees wax can be bought in sheets. Simply drop some of your favorite essential oils onto the wax, then roll the wax sheet tightly around a wick before sealing the sheet by applying pressure with your fingers.

The most effective aromatherapy herbal candles require a little more effort. If using molds (most cardboard works well) thread a wick through the base, then seal with putty. Use a double boiler to melt your soy or palm wax over a low to medium heat. Once the wax has melted, add your essential oil or oils to the wax.

Whether using containers or molds for your aromatherapy herbal candles, hold the wick as close to center as possible, and then pour the wax into the molds or containers, leaving at least 2cm of the wick uncovered.

Allow the wax cool for at least a couple of hours before placing the candles into the fridge overnight. The following day, remove the candles from the fridge, and if you have used a mold, remove this from the outside of the candle. And you now have your very own, tailor made, aromatherapy herbal candles.

Not only will they provide you with health benefits once you light them, aromatherapy herbal candles make great gifts, so consider making several at once for this purpose.
