Dog Wellness – Safety, Wellness and Health Tips

Dog Wellness – Safety, Wellness and Health Tips

If you are considering adding a dog to your family it is important to understand all that is entailed with being a successful, happy dog owner and ensuring you have a happy healthy dog. Of course, there are many things to know and understand before getting a dog but these dog wellness tips are a good place to get an idea of things you need to have and take care with to ensure safety, health and wellness for your dog.  If you already own a dog ask yourself this; Are you aware of the things that can hurt your dog and aware of the things he needs to stay happy and healthy?  Good dog wellness practices start with pet owner knowledge and awareness.

With compliments of Dr. Jon, veterinarian, here are some dog wellness tips to increase your knowledge and add to your compilation of necessary pet care knowledge.

Bread Dough

When bread dough is ingested, it rises in a dog’s stomach and as the dough ferments, alcohol is produced, causing alcohol toxicity.   After ingestion, dogs will act nauseated, vomit, act painful, lethargic or become disoriented.

If your dog does get his paws on bread dough, call your veterinarian or local emergency clinic.

Obesity

Not only does extra weight put stress on joints and discourage exercise, but obesity may also lead to increased risk of diabetes, arthritis and cancer. Check your dog’s conformation to determine if he is too chubby. An obese dog has a rounder girth, a paunch on his underbelly and his ribs are buried.

Traveling with Your Dog

When traveling with your pet in the car, it’s import to follow these tips:

Use Proper Restraint: When traveling in your vehicle, your pet should always be properly restrained for both your and their safety. In the case of an accident, a dog can weigh up 30 times its weight upon impact while traveling at 35 mph. Today, many companies create seat belt systems and crates to keep animals safely secured while on the road.
Never Leave Your Pet In the Car: In 70-degree weather and above, it takes only minutes for the temperatures in your car to escalate to triple digits. Leaving the window open an inch does not provide adequate ventilation. Many states are passing laws that prohibit leaving your pet alone in your automobile.
Bring Water: Car travel can make your pets feel anxious and result in nervous panting. Be sure to take frequent breaks during your trip to allow your pet the opportunity to re-hydrate.  Let him out of the care on a leash and give him some water in a bowl and even a nice healthy treat.

Healthy Dog Signs

There are several signs that can indicate a problem with your dog. It is important for dog owners to be  aware of the signs and symptoms that indicate a problem. Problem signs include a lack of appetite, decreased activity, weakness, changes in water consumption, not grooming, bad breath, sleeping more, drooling, vomiting, diarrhea, coughing, trouble breathing, frequent urination or bloody urination.

Ideal Pet Food Storag

An ideal choice for a dog food storage container is a sturdy, airtight, bug-proof container that is easy to clean and large enough for an entire bag of kibble.

Choosing a Doggie Door

Your ideal doggie door is sized to fit the standing height of your full-grown dog when measured from the top of the shoulders, and the width at the chest.

Bad Doggie Breath

Many people think that dog bad breath just comes with the territory of being a dog.  This is not the case.  Dog bad breath can be associated with teeth and/or mouth abnormalities.

Exercising your Senior Dog

Exercise and play is important to all dogs, including your elderly dog.  Exercise helps maintain a healthy body weight. Being overweight may lead to a number of health problems. It places excess stress on your pet’s heart. Excess weight on degenerating joints can speed up the development of arthritis.

Your elderly dog’s mental health may also benefit from exercise. Activity keeps oxygen and other nutrients at optimum levels in the brain. The brain is like every other organ in the body in that it requires good nutrition.

Removing Skunk Odor

Try a mixture of 10 parts hydrogen peroxide to 1 part baking soda. Add a dash of  dish-washing soap and pour into a spray bottle.  Spray liberally over dry coat and allow to air dry. Avoid eyes.

This same mixture works on inanimate objects as well.

Healthy Teeth Tips for Dogs

Keeping your dog’s teeth clean can help keep your dog healthy. Use a soft toothbrush. A child’s toothbrush for small dogs is ideal; an adult size should be used for larger dogs. Use toothpaste formulated especially for pets, available at pet supply stores or your veterinarian’s office.  Do not use human toothpaste – it is not safe for your dog.

Begin by only brushing the outside surfaces of the teeth. When your pet has adjusted to this, add the inside surfaces between the teeth and tongue.

Nail Trimming Problem

If you make the mistake of cutting your dog’s nails too short here is  a home remedy to stop the bleeding.  A small amount of flour packed onto the end of the nail will often quell the bleeding.  Also try rubbing a bar of soap on the end of the nail for the same effect.  Nothing, however, beats having a stash of styptic powder, which you can buy at your local pet store or at your vet’s office.

Cocoa Mulch

Mulch is commonly used in landscaping.  Most types of mulch are safe, however, cocoa bean mulch is toxic.  The cocoa bean produces beautiful dark mulch that has the aroma of chocolate. Unfortunately, this type of mulch is dangerous because of the by-products of the cocoa shells. When ingested, dogs can show severe signs of chocolate toxicity.  If you do any landscaping make sure to use pet safe mulch.

Adding a new dog to the one you already have.

Don’t encourage ill will between future buddies with a too-close-for-comfort feeding time routine. Make sure to feed the new member of the household in a separate location, using a using separate food bowls.

Puppy Proofing your Home

Start by assuming you have a two-year-old child.
Everything that you would lock up for a child, lock up for your puppy.
Keep all cleaning materials, household chemicals, and medications locked behind cabinet doors.
Keep poisonous plants, electric cords, and children’ toys out of reach.
Block off portions of your home such as bedrooms, bathrooms, or any part of the house you are not occupying most of the time.  The new puppy should have a very limited place to roam in your home until he properly potty trained and outgrows chewing on things.

Winter Paw Care for Dogs

In cold weather, the pads on the bottom of your dog’s feet can take a beating. One way to protect them is to buy special boots made of neoprene or similar materials.

Preventing Heatstroke in Cats

Do not leave your cat in the car – even if you think the weather is fine.  Cars heat up very quickly and become similar to a small sauna.
When the weather is hot or even warm make sure your cat has plenty of shade and water if he is outside.  Consider leaving a small tub of water for your cat to play in and stay cool in the hot weather.  Make sure the amount of water is drowning proof safe.

Bland Diet for Vomiting

Many veterinarians recommend a “bland” diet for dogs that have been vomiting or had vomiting and diarrhea.  The general approach is as follows:

1.  First, start with water. After the small increments of water are offered, gradually offer a bland diet.

2.  Small frequent feedings of a bland digestible diet such as: Hill’s prescription diet i/d, Iams Recovery Diet, Provision EN or Waltham Low Fat are usually recommended. Homemade diets can be made of boiled rice or potatoes (as the carbohydrate source) and lean hamburger, skinless chicken or low-fat cottage cheese (as the protein source).

3.  Return to regular dog food should be gradual over one to two days. If vomiting continues at any time or the onset of other symptoms is noted, call your veterinarian promptly.

Protect your Dog from Common Household Dangers

There are items in every home that can hold hidden dangers to pets. Many household items may look benign yet have potential to cause serious injury.  For example, a recliner can crush a small puppy or fast-closing doors may allow paws or tails to be caught.  Here are a few items to keep your eye on:

1. Paper shredders

2. Ethylene glycol

3. Doors

4. Recliners

5. Potpourri

6. Bones

7. Human foods and substances

8. Trash cans

9. Unsecured medications

10. Glues and cleaners

Tips for a Successful Vet Visit

When you go to your veterinarian for your dog’s next visit, make sure you get the most out of the visit. Ask lots of questions and be prepared. Here are some tips:

Write down any questions and health concerns you have before you go and take the list with you.
Make a list of any medications your dog is on, the dose and frequency.  Be sure to discuss any effects the medication may or may not have had or any difference in behavior if any since taking the medication.

Yard Safety Tips

There are several possible hazards in your yard that can cause injury or create problems for your dog.

1.  Sharp nails or wires on fencing

2.  Loose fence boards or areas where pets can sneak out, around or under

3.  Trash tossed or blown into the yard that may be chewed on or ingested

4.  Improperly stored toxins such as rodenticide, slug bait, fertilizer or antifreeze.

5.  If you landscape or are having any landscaping done at your home, make sure to use pet safe mulch.

6.  Make sure you do not have any pet toxic plants in your yard.

The Dangers of Paint on Your Family’s Health

The Dangers of Paint on Your Family’s Health

There are more than three million asthmatics in the UK (one in eight children and one in 13 adults), and between 100 and 150 million sufferers in the world. Norwich Union insurance reports that, over the past quarter-century, asthma in the UK has increased six-fold amongst children and three- to four-fold amongst adults.

Norwich Union points to two ‘environmental bad guys’ – pollution and bad diet- linked with asthma. Most of us have very little control over environmental pollution, but sometimes we actually introduce dangerous pollutants into our homes.

Most asthmatics are highly sensitive to paint fumes, leading to wheeziness or full-blown serious asthma attacks. Yet it’s not just asthmatics who suffer from the effects of the 300 million litres of paints sold in the UK each year, and their associated products. There are many other serious health risks.

A range of health risks

With good reason, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates paint within its Top Five environmental hazards, and has produced research that shows VOC (volatile organic compound) levels indoors while paint is drying are 1000 times higher than outdoors. The World Health Organization (WHO) highlights the dangers faced by people who work with paint. It reports that painters have a 20% increased risk of a range of cancers and a 40% increased risk of lung cancer, in particular.

The WHO is also concerned about the long-term health effects of ‘off gassing’, the release of toxic vapours over the life of the paint in your home. And in Denmark, specialists have identified a neurological condition brought on by long-term exposure to paint solvents- ‘painter’s dementia’.

In general, it is recognized that children and older people are particularly vulnerable to solvent vapours. When added to headaches, other allergic reactions, skin problems, heart stressing and effects on the reproductive systems, conventional paint is something you should think hard about before inviting into your home.

The safer, natural option

The good news is that you don’t have to expose yourself and your family to dangers posed by conventional solvent and water-based paints. There’s an increasing range of natural and eco paints, available easily from specialist suppliers. Eco-friendly paints, such as the ranges from Earthborn and Biofa, are made from safe, natural ingredients.

As you’d expect, natural paints contain little or no synthetic constituents. Some eco paints are made from by-products of the food industry, including linseed oil and casein. So it’s hardly surprising when some people report their paint has a delicate aroma of lavender or wood oils, rather than the noxious fumes they’ve come to expect.

Natural paints release no toxic fumes to impact on your family’s health. Nor do these kinds of environmentally friendly paints leave toxic material on their surface after drying, as do numerous conventional types. What’s more, because many natural paints are 100% biodegradable, some are even safe enough to dispose of on your compost heap!

A real alternative to hazardous chemicals

If you’re thinking that there must be a downside to eco-paints, it’s very hard to find. Allergy-free paints are a real alternative to those you find in your local DIY superstore. Easy to work with, available in a wide range of fashionable colours (some types enable you to safely and easily mix shades yourself) and finishes, they won’t impact on your decorating style or creative ambitions.

And, what’s more, the price is comparable to mainstream decorative brands. There really is little reason today to expose your family to the numerous serious health risks associated with conventional paints.

Top 10 Best Home Remedies For The Most Common Aches, Pains & Health Concerns

Top 10 Best Home Remedies For The Most Common Aches, Pains & Health Concerns

When you first feel the signs of a migraine attack coming along, do you immediately pop the pills that your doctor prescribed? If you have the common headaches, muscle or joint pains, do you â??prescribeâ?? a medication for yourself and look for an over-the-counter pain killer?

Itâ??s good to rely on medications for the more serious medical conditions that you may have- but for the common aches, pains and health complaints, it really makes much more sense to rely on natural remedies.

This is especially true because of the recent spate of health news about how some over-the-counter medications are discovered to actually cause more complications to your health after treating a supposedly simple ache or pain in your body.

Why â??Naturalâ?? is the Way to Go when Treating the Most Common Aches, Pains & Health Conditions

Letâ??s say that you feel a headache coming along and you swallowed a couple of Aspirins. This over-the-counter drug is used to relieve minor aches, pains and is also used to reduce fever.

Aspirin is also used as an anti-inflammatory medication and when given in low doses, can be used to repair damaged blood vessels; that is why it is used on a long-term basis by some individuals who have problems with their heart.

But the side effects of aspirin include stomach bleeding and gastrointestinal ulcers. When improperly given to children with flu or chickenpox, taking Asprin may cause Reyeâ??s Syndrome to appear.

This is not to say that Aspirin is something that you should completely steer clear of. In fact, this drug is one of the most widely-used medications in the world.

However, it does pay to realize that rather than risking the possibility of experiencing undesirable side effects when you are taking over-the-counter medications for the most minor aches and pains â?? you do have the option of going â??naturalâ??.

Although some individuals may scoff at natural treatments being old-fashioned or mere old wivesâ?? tales, there really are a lot of natural treatments and home remedies which are equally effective as over-the-counter drugs. And the one advantage that natural treatments have over pills is that they do not cause any side effects.

In addition, natural treatments are less expensive, more effective, they are gentler to your body and they are environment-friendly.

The Top 10 Best Natural Treatments & Home Remedies for the Most Common Aches, Pains & Health Concerns

So what are some of the best natural treatments and home remedies for the most common aches, pains and health concerns that people experience on a regular basis? Read on to find out:

1. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar may be a staple ingredient in most kitchens, but did you know that this is a great natural remedy for heartburn?

If you are experiencing heartburn, it could be due to overeating, stress, indulging on too much spicy food or having too many trips to the refrigerator to steal a snack or two at midnight.

Rather than taking your typical dose of antacids, you can down a spoonful or two of apple cider vinegar.
What this does is to break down the excess foods that you have consumed and restore the normal balance in your stomach.

2. Natural Oils

If you feel a headache coming on, try rubbing lavender or peppermint oil on your temple.

You can also apply the soothing natural medication on your neck â?? and sniffing its aroma may actually lessen the pain that you are feeling â?? as indicated in science of aromatherapy.

Another type of natural oil that you can use to treat toothaches is clove oil. That shooting pain on your gum is no fun at all and while you are waiting for your dentist to address the problem; places a couple of drops of clove oil on your tooth and gum.

Another alternative is to bite on a crushed garlic clove, which has antibacterial properties.

3. Green Tea

Yet another natural treatment that you can use as a substitute for antihistamines is green tea.

When you have this habit of reaching for the really strong prescription medications like antihistamines the minute that even the mildest of allergies attack â?? it will actually cause your bodyâ??s immune system to get weak.

As such, it pays to go for natural and body-friendly treatments like green tea. Down two to three cups of this soothing beverage when you have an allergy attack and wait for this natural wonder to work.

In addition to being a natural antihistamine, green tea also has the following benefits to your health:

â?¢ Lowers the blood pressure and prevents hypertension.
â?¢ Provides protection against cardiovascular diseases.
â?¢ Protects against certain types of cancer.
â?¢ Speeds up the bodyâ??s recovery after a heart attack.
â?¢ Thins the blood and helps prevent blood clotting.

4. Cayenne Pepper

Although cayenne pepper puts the sizzle and spice in most foods, it can be actually soothing when used as a natural remedy for cuts.

Aside from stopping the bleeding immediately, sprinkling cayenne pepper on the affected area will actually ease the pain.

5. Flaxseed

Women who are experiencing discomfort due to undergoing the menopausal stage will be glad to know that there is a natural remedy for it: flaxseed.

Hot flashes are a particularly common problem for menopausal women and flaxseed can effectively prevent this.

What you can use instead is honey which has antibacterial properties; a slice of raw potato whose juices will soothe the burn; or mustard which can also double up as a burn salve.

With these top 10 natural remedies for the most common aches, pains and health complaints, you will feel better afterwards â?? and you would not have to go through any side effects at all.

Massage, Oils And Getting Ourself A Great Relaxing Treat

All oils put on the skin are absorbed into the tissue and then move through the capillaries into the blood stream. When insecticides, herbicides, fungicides are used in farming to grow seed, nut and vegetable oil crops, molecules of those chemicals show up in the extracted oil. This is why it is so important to choose oils that are pure and beneficial for us. Many of us know the importance and benefits of eating organic food, the same principles apply to what we put on our skin. Organic massage oil is made with only pure certified organic oils.

A massage can be very invigorating and a very relaxing experience. It is a great way to relieve exhausted and fatigued muscles. Massage and therapeutic touch help a body’s physical and emotional needs. When essential oils are combined with massage, the benefits are improved.

Essential oils are highly concentrated extracts so keep away from the eyes (If oil comes in contact with the eyes, rinse it out with a few drops of pure Sweet Almond Oil, not water. Seek medical attention.) And never take them internally. They should not be applied directly to the skin but mixed with carrier oil such as almond oil to dilute them as the oils are in concentrated form. Never increase the dose of essential oil. Some oils are toxic in large amounts.

Do not go out in the sun for at least 6 hours after using any of these oils in your recipes: Ginger, lemon, orange and Bergamot, they can cause skin irritations if exposed to sun. Do not use on pregnant women or children under the age of two.
Store essential oils in brown or dark blue colored glass bottles with a close fitting plastic screw cap. Do not store in plastic containers, they could become contaminated. Keep them in a dark, cool place to prolong the shelf life. Always store out of reach of children. Carrier oils are vegetable oils used to dilute the concentrated essential oils, they help to slow down the evaporation of the essential oils and help absorb them into the skin. The carrier oils should be “Extra virgin or cold pressed vegetable oils” for maximum benefit. Some good carrier oils include sweet almond, grapeseed, canola, safflower, sunflower, sesame, wheat germ, olive and peanut oil.

Aromatherapy for Depression

it’s gonna take more than aromatherapy (day 92)
aromatherapy

Aromatherapy for Depression

Aromatherapy Scent is the most enduring of our senses. Aromatherapy is the use of pure essential and absolute oils. Essential oils are complex, highly fragrant and volatile substances, with varying degrees of complexity, fragrance, and volatility. They are the most potent and concentrated extracts of various parts of flowers, fruits, leaves, spices, roots, and woods. The plant’s essence molecules are approximately 75-100 times more concentrated as an essential oil than in the dried plant. It is a holistic treatment of caring for the body with pleasant smelling botanical oils such as rose, lemon, lavender and peppermint. It has the power to transform our emotions, and heal our bodies. Aromatherapy is one of the fastest growing fields in alternative medicine. It is widely used at home, clinics and hospitals for a variety of applications such as pain relief for women in labor pain, relieving pain caused by the side effects of the chemotherapy undergone by the cancer patients, and rehabilitation of cardiac patients. The oils are obtained by steam distillation, expression (squeezing the oil from peel), maceration (immersing the plant in hot oil to release the essence) or enfleurage (pressing flowers between oiled glass plates). The essential oils are aromatic essences extracted from plants, flowers, trees, fruits, bark, grasses and seeds with distinctive therapeutic, psychological, and physiological properties, which improve and prevent illness.

There are about 150 essential oils. These oils are extracted by the means of steam distillation, cold expression, or fixed oil or alcohol extraction. Most of these oils have antiseptic properties; some are antiviral, anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving, antidepressant and expectorant. When you take “Aromatherapy massage” with the essential oils, these oils are absorbed into the bloodstream via the skin. Other properties of the essential oils which are taken advantage of in aromatherapy are their stimulation, relaxation, digestion improvement, and diuretic properties. To get the maximum benefit from essential oils, it should be made from natural, pure raw materials. Synthetically made oils do not work. They may also be added to steam inhalations or baths, added to compresses or spread throughout a room with diffusers. The essential oils used in aromatherapy are the life force of the plants from which they have been extracted. These oils can be massaged on your body, inhaled, added to your bath or sprayed in the air. Cold expression is used for citrus oils, and a method of solvent extraction for absolutes, concretes and resinoids. The newest technological process of extraction is the hypercritical carbon dioxide method: in part due to high cost, it is not as commonly available.

Aromatherapy uses aromatic essences that are extracted from plants. Aromatherapy is particularly effective in dealing with stress, depression and stress related disorders. ‘Depression’ is a term which encompasses a wide spectrum of psychic problems ans symtoms which, in turn, can lead to more serious illnesses. Aromatherapy, in helping to relax the patient and by reducing stress, may actually help to prevent such conditions. Depression related disorders, such as digestive problems, stress and other mental problems, can be treated by Aromatherapy. As depression is reduced, there is a corresponding improvement in sleep patterns and energy levels. In aromatherapy it is believed that the sense of smell is very powerful and directly connected to our brain, and therefore, to the hormonal activity in the body. Based on this logic, we can balance our hormones using essential oils. Many of the essential oils used for depression are from flowers and fruit. These essences have an uplifting effect on the mind and emotions. An aromatic bath two to three times per week is especially helpful for depression. Sometimes the aromatic baths are effective enough on their own as a remedy for mild bouts of depression or feeling blue.

Sandalwood is an essential oil used in yoga and in temples in many religions. It is indicated to treat anxiety, nervousness, and depression. Aromatherapy can help you relax, be energized, and create a feeling of well being. Aromatherapy is an alternative theatment that uses the highly concentrated essential oils that are extracted from plants to treat symptoms and assist in the healing process. Aromatherapy is aimed at revitalizing the body and mind while lifting your spirits. Aromatherapy will aid in promoting a sense of well being. Aromatherapy is also known for easing mental fatigue and insomnia. When you use these wonderful essential oils in the correct blend for massages, baths, diffusers and even personal perfumes you will begin to benefit from the use of aromatherapy. Using aromatherapy for depression will give you the peace of mind and the well being that you need. Bergamot (pressed from the peels of bitter oranges) has a strong reputation for its ability to uplift the mind and emotions. Bergamot has the ability to both relax the nerves and invigorate the spirit; with these actions, this important oil can be helpful for a variety of depressive condtions. Sweet orange, a close relative, works in a similar fashion, with a slightly sweeter aroma.

Getting Started With Aromatherapy – Easy Ways To Enjoy Essential Oils

Beginning ‘bona fide’ aromatherapy, beyond burning a scented candle or soaking with a pleasing pre-packaged bath salt blend, can be a little daunting to many people. All those little bottles of pricey liquids, electric contraptions, and fancy-sounding blends – how does one actually use essential oils to improve their health, happiness and well-being? It’s easier than one might think – getting started can open a whole new world of fun and effective natural remedies that can lift your mood, calm your nerves, and support healing of a great many common ailments.

The basics of aromatherapy are simple, once a few fundamental concepts are understood. Aromatherapy is the practice of using essential oils – the aromatic compounds of plants, extracted through steam distillation or other methods. The oils act as the chemical messengers and protectors of the plant kingdom. Each essential oil can contain hundreds of different ‘volatile’ (easily evaporated) compounds, most of which are very compatible with the physiology of the human body. What’s so wonderful is they can also do for us what they do for plants – act as chemical messengers through affecting our smell sense and limbic system, and defending the body against foreign invaders by their anti-bacterial and anti-viral actions. In this article, we’ll focus on the mental and emotional effects of aromatherapy, and address the physiological aspects at another time.

Essential oils are best used in one of two simple ways: through inhalation, where the oils can directly affect certain areas of the brain, and through topical application, where the oils are easily absorbed into the bloodstream. (Note: Oral ingestion can be an option, but only under experienced medical supervision – further, SOME OILS CAN BE TOXIC, and other even seemingly harmless oils should not be used under certain conditions. If you are pregnant, or have specific medical needs, consult a knowledgeable practitioner before continuing!)

Inhalation of Essential Oils

Essential oils when inhaled directly effect our limbic system, the brain’s emotional centers. Many oils have been found to sharpen concentration, reduce tension and anxiety, and even reduce depression. How can we reap these magnificent benefits? There are a few simple, cost-effective ways to prepare essential oils for inhalation – and experience these wonderful effects: the ‘handkerchief method’, making your own ’smelling salts’, and making your own aromatherapy ‘mister’.

The handkerchief method is pretty straightforward – put a drop or two of an oil or blend on a tissue and inhale (careful with some oils though – peppermint, for example, can burn the sensitive skin around your nostrils if put in direct contact). You can even leave the tissue (or ‘handkerchief, or piece of cloth, or cotton, or whatever) in a room or your workspace and the oil will continue to evaporate and have its effects.

Making your own ’smelling salts’ is similar, though your preparation will last a while longer. To make the salts, fill a small vial (dark glass with a good cap is best) with natural sea salt and drop essential oils into the salt. The amount of oil is not too critical – enough that there is detectable aroma, and not so much that the salt gets completely wet. Just unscrew the cap and inhale from the bottle whenever you need a lift, or, like the handkerchief, leave the vial open in your space, letting the aroma slowly fill the area.

A ‘mister’ can be used infuse a room with aroma – just add essential oils to water in a small spray bottle, shake (before each use) and spray!

Here are a few easy recipes for the inhalation method (Note: in all recipes, the number of drops of oil and/or amount of carrier can be used as a ratio, which you can increase or decrease as you need):

For uplifting the mood and brightening the mind – 4 drops of Rosemary Cineol, 3 drops of Lavender, 2 drops of Lemon and 1 drop of Peppermint, OR 3 drops Clary Sage, 2 drops Bergamot and 1 drop Sweet Orange.

For calming anxiety – equal parts of Roman Chamomile, Bergamot and Orange, OR 3 drops Lavender, 2 drops Neroli and 1 drop Bergamot.

For creating a harmonious atmosphere – 3 drops Jasmine, 1 drop Ylang Ylang and 1 drop Sandalwood, OR equal parts Geranium, Patchouli and Bergamot.

Aromatherapy Massage

Now for the topical application method. Usually this is described as aromatherapy massage – ideally, this is done with a partner, but self-massage will work as well. Creating your own massage oil is a straightforward process – just dilute 10 – 20 drops of essential oil per ounce of carrier oil. There are a variety of carrier oils available, though Sweet Almond is a great all-around oil and is recommended for general aromatherapy massage. As for the massage, itself, any technique will do – let your intuition be your guide. When you wish to get a little more advanced, do a little further research to create synergy with certain essential oils and certain acupressure points.

The same blends for inhalation can be used for massage, though here are a few more fun recipes:

For a sensual massage, per ounce of carrier oil, add – 8 drops Sandalwood, 6 drops Rose, 4 drops Lavender and 2 drops Ylang Ylang.

For opening the heart, try 4 drops Spikenard, 4 drops Lavender and 2 drops of Rose.

Finally, for sheer relaxation, use 6 drops Lavender, 4 drops Neroli and 2 drops Bergamot.

Don’t be afraid to create your own blends! You will certainly find particular oils that you enjoy – and aromatherapy is like that. It is the oils you find most enjoyable that are likely those that are most effective for you. My only recommendation is to change the ratios of oils you are blending very slowly. Start with one drop of each oil in a small vial, mixing them and allowing a few minutes for them to blend before adding more oil 1 drop at a time. In general, citrus oils ( Orange, Bergamot, Lemon, Lime) tend to bring alertness while calming at the same time. Herb oils (Peppermint, Rosemary) tend to be invigorating, while floral oils tend to be relaxing (Lavender, Chamomile, Jasmine, Neroli). This is only a guideline – many oils have complex properties and will affect individuals differently – use your nose as a guide.

Conclusion

Getting started with aromatherapy is easy, and with these simple ideas, you will be able to create essential oil preparations tailored to your needs and enjoyment. This can lead to a lifelong appreciation of these wonderful gifts from nature.

Essential Oils For Your Emotions

Holistic healing products means taking an holistic approach when seeking treatment for imbalances and choosing to live a more balanced lifestyle. What primarily distinguishes holistic healing apart from alternative medicine, complementary medicine, and integrative medicine is that physical health is not necessarily the main focus.

Even so, it is often the experience of physical discomfort that will first prompt a person’s pursuit of holistic healing products. Inner wellness and piece is the main goal.

Carrier oils and lotions are all 100% natural aromatherapy products and are organic for many holistic healing needs. Carrier Oils dilute the essential oils to allow them to be used topically. The ratio of carrier oils to essential oils will be determined by how the product will be used.

For example, our synergies contain 90% essential oils and only 10% carrier oil. A synergy is applied to the skin sparingly. On the other hand, massage oils contain about 5% essential oils and 95% carrier oils. The massage oil can be applied in larger amounts if need be.

An Ion Cleanse draws waste from the body though a unit placed in water with a positive and negative electric current. Your feet are immersed in warm water along with the ionizer for 30 minutes. During this time, you will see the water change color – from dark brown, orange or foamy – depending on the toxins released.

Because of poor diet and high stress, we tend to accumulate and store excessive quantities of waste products. During this 30-minute session, the ions enter your body and begin to neutralize these tissue acid wastes. The process is called reverse osmosis.

The aromatherapy facial is a facial steam and then gentle herbal cleansing, followed by a glacial clay mask, balancing toner, skin serum, carrot eye lift gel, then Rosee moisturizer. Your face, shoulders, neck and upper arms will be massaged, pressure points accessed. A great way to rejuvenate tired skin and have a healthy glow. All products used should be 100 % natural.
